Georgina Martina Inc. (GMI) is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation in the north of Melbourne, Australia. GMI offers specialised family violence services, including case management support and crisis accommodation for victim-survivors of family violence. Their mission is to create safe and inclusive environments that facilitate healing and growth for those impacted by domestic violence. Guided by feminist principles, GMI strives to empower individuals and families to thrive beyond violence.

GMI’s mission is to provide resources and opportunities that nurture independent healing and growth for victim-survivors of domestic violence. Their vision is to see cultures, communities, and people thriving beyond violence, all achieved through safe and inclusive practice spaces.

Main Objectives

The primary objectives of GMI revolve around four strategic pillars: Our People, Our Clients, Our Connections, and Our Future. These pillars guide the organisation in delivering their services with a focus on safety, inclusivity, and support for victim-survivors. GMI is also committed to complying with Child Safe Standards to ensure that children’s safety and needs are prioritised in their service delivery.

Benefitting Groups

GMI provides its services to victim-survivors from all backgrounds. This includes women, as well as individuals whose gender identity does not align with the one assigned at birth, such as trans, non-binary, and other gender-diverse individuals. They also support all accompanying children and young people under the age of 18 years.

Types of Services

The services offered by GMI include crisis and medium-term accommodation, advocacy and referral services, and collaborative, intensive case management. They ensure a holistic trauma-informed support model that is culturally sensitive to cater to the diverse needs of their clients. In light of the 2015 Royal Commission into Family Violence, GMI operates using the core and cluster refuge model, allowing families privacy and dignity.
