SINHALA ASSOCIATION OF QUEENSLAND INC

The Sinhala Association of Queensland Inc is a non-profit community organisation based in Brisbane, dedicated to preserving and promoting the Sinhala language and Sri Lankan culture within Queensland. Established in 1992, it was founded to support the growing Sri Lankan community by providing cultural, educational, and social services that help maintain a strong connection to their heritage while integrating into Australian society.

The association’s mission is to facilitate the celebration and preservation of Sinhala language and Sri Lankan culture through various activities and educational programs. • Preserve and promote Sinhala language and culture, including music, dance, art, and drama.

• Advance Sinhala education by operating the Brisbane Sinhala School, teaching language and literature.

• Hosting cultural events such as dancing, singing, drama performances, and the annual Sinhala New Year and Saralanga festivals.
• Operating the Brisbane Sinhala School which educates around 80 students in Sinhala language and Sri Lankan culture.
• Running the SAQ Youth group to foster leadership, cultural pride, and community engagement among young Sri Lankans.
• Providing a Senior Group that promotes well-being, social interaction, and volunteering opportunities for older members.
• Offering benevolent relief and social welfare programs to assist disadvantaged Sri Lankans both in Australia and Sri Lanka.
